Step 1: Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

You should take several steps to prepare for your laser hair removal appointment. To qualify for our permanent hair removal, clients must also meet a few criteria.

• No Accutane within the last six months
• No epilation, tweezing, or waxing for 4-6 weeks before laser hair treatment
• No sun exposure for at least four weeks before treatment
• Photosensitive medications like antibiotics need to be out of your system at least one week before laser hair removal
• Stop using retinol, salicylic acid, and photosensitive topicals for at least five days before treatment
• Thoroughly shave the treatment area
• Completely remove makeup and self-tanner in the treatment area
• Clients cannot be pregnant or nursing

Step 2: The Laser Hair Removal Procedure

The first step is to cool the skin. We use a Zimmer Cryo to keep your skin at temperatures as low as negative 22 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the area is cooled, the Quanta Light laser is applied to the hair follicles. The melanin concentrated in the hair absorbs the laser light and converts it to heat. Laser hair removal causes permanent thermal damage to the hair follicles, so they no longer produce hair.

Laser hair removal is effective in actively growing anagen hair. On average, about 30% of your hair is actively growing at any given time. As a result, some of the hair follicles will remain undamaged after your initial treatment. We recommend a minimum of six treatments to achieve permanent hair removal. Your hair type and color can also affect the amount of permanent hair removal that happens with each treatment.

Step 3: Laser Hair Removal Aftercare

Directly following your session, you will notice red bumps in the laser hair treatment area. These bumps should go away in a couple of hours, but for the first few days after your treatment, you should treat your skin as if you’re experiencing a moderate sunburn. It usually takes about two weeks for the hair to fall out after treatment, and you should avoid sun exposure for four weeks or more. Once the laser-treated hair has fallen out, the hair that was not actively growing during treatment will start growing back in. Each successive treatment will damage more and more hair follicles until all of the hair is gone.
