Yes, blackout tattoo removal is possible. Contrary to popular belief, white and yellow tattoos are more difficult to remove than other colors. However, blackout tattoo removal can take several sessions because of how deeply the ink penetrates the skin. If you want to remove your blackout tattoo, contact Lexington Tattoo Removal. Our highly-trained specialists are uniquely qualified to work with you to remove your tattoo with high-tech, state-of-the-art equipment. Continue reading to learn more about the blackout tattoo removal process.
A blackout tattoo is precisely what it sounds like a large expanse of skin covered by black ink. While some are solid black, others add intricate designs or shapes in another color, or with bare skin showing through. They’re prevalent on arms, legs, the chest, and the back, and can be an incredibly artistic form of self-expression. Blackout tattoos are dramatic and personal, and the ink usually penetrates deep into the dermis because the tattoo artist usually has to go over the skin several times.
Due to the extensive coverage and how deeply the ink penetrates into the skin, it can take several sessions to remove. However, unlike white or yellow ink, it is possible to remove it. For small tattoos, it often takes 2-3 sessions to remove the ink with our Quanta Q-Plus C EVO laser. For a blackout tattoo, removal can take as many as 12 sessions. When you meet with a specialist, they will provide an estimate based on your tattoo and your skin type. For instance, removing an older tattoo might take fewer sessions because it’s already begun to fade.
Before each session, it is imperative that you follow our specialist’s instructions to avoid sunlight for the month before the procedure and use SPF-30 sunscreen every day. Don’t use tanning beds or topical treatments for at least a week before your appointment. We will also take photos before each session so you can track the progress of the tattoo removal.
Following each session, you’ll schedule your next session, usually about six weeks apart. It will likely take a better half a year or a little longer to remove your tattoo fully. We’ll also walk you through the skincare routine, which includes using a moisturizer and a numbing cream. We highly recommend Ebanel Numb520 Cream, which you can use up to six times daily.
